Superfans, Celebrations, and Community: Year 1 of The G Day

The idea of The G Day was born in 2023 as residents of The G House would often venture to UNC campus to attend various sporting events. We had so much fun getting the full “Superfan” experience together, that we decided we wanted to extend this opportunity to the whole community. Fast forward to September 27, 2024 (1 year ago today!), the idea of The G Day came to life. That first event was so eye-opening for us. We had been to countless games together as housemates but having so many of you there really made it a party. All of the cheering, dancing, and excitement was contagious, and we knew we were on to something special. It is incredible to look back and realize how much we have grown since that first event.

Following that initial volleyball game (where we were featured in The Daily Tar Heel) we attended the state fair, a UNC women’s basketball game, a UNC baseball game, and our biggest event of all, the legendary 4th of July party. In addition to these major events, we had plenty of smaller “G Squad Gatherings”, G Day workshops, and dinners at The G House with G Day team members. All of these events and gatherings inspired us, fueled our excitement, and created momentum that we are still building on. The G Day supported employment program has also grown tremendously and has become a merchandise provider for several local businesses. This program was launched to create job opportunities and provide funding for G Day events, but it has also created a connection with the community that will only continue to grow.

None of this would be possible without all of you, the amazing G Community. Thank you so much for your time, your energy, and your passion, which has made The G Day everything we dreamed of and more. As incredible as the inaugural year of The G Day was, we are happy to report that it was only the beginning. We are now officially a student organization at UNC! We look forward to hosting events throughout the school year, so be on the lookout for information coming soon! As always, never hesitate to reach out to us if you want to do a G Squad Gathering or have ideas for future G Day events. You are what makes The G Day thrive. Be sure to follow us on Instagram if you are not already: @teamgday

Always remember to make it a G Day for yourself and others, and to share how you are doing that!
